Future research plans
Our future research plans are organised around three interlocking streams that reflect the scale and complexity of decarbonising the built environment.

Each stream will be pursued through applied pilots, data‑driven tool development and collaborative knowledge exchange.
- Decarbonisation research stream: Retrofit, Net Zero, materials and circularity We will test retrofit pathways, whole‑life carbon approaches and circular material strategies in real projects.
- Technology research stream: AI, BIM, digital tools, delivery and market diversification. We will integrate AI, advanced BIM workflows and digital decision tools to make trade‑offs transparent and to open new delivery models and markets.
- People research stream: Community, heritage and social value
We will focus on community engagement, heritage sensitivity and social value metrics, to test whether interventions are equitable, culturally appropriate and wellbeing‑focused.
By running these streams in parallel and cross‑referencing findings, we will produce integrated toolkits, policy recommendations and training that accelerate scalable, people‑centred, low‑carbon solutions across neighbourhoods.
